Amanita albocreata (Atkinson) Gilbert Cap 2.5-8cm across, convex becoming flat; white to pale yellow or with a pale yellow disc; sticky when moist, smooth, spotted with easily removed flaky patches or warts of whitish volva) remnants. Gills free or narrowed, adnexed, crowded, moderately broad; white. Stem 50-150x5-13mm (2-6x'/4-1/2in), stuffed, with minute scaly patches, tapering slightly toward the top; no ring; the almost round basal bulb is white; the sheath-like volva has a free margin and a few woolly flakes or patches near the base. Flesh thin; white. Spores subglobose to ellipsoid, nonamyloid, 7-9.4 x 6.3-8.7µ. Deposit white. Habitat on the ground in coniferous and deciduous woods and sometimes in open, grassy areas. Infrequent. Found in northeastern north America. Season June-August. Possibly poisonous -avoid, dangerous.
